Four star hotels in Barcelona have become very competitive in the last five years or so. It’s a difficult class to define as budget travelers will no doubt opt for the hostel and three star range with luxury and business travelers going for the higher five star options. Hence the four star hotels in Barcelona target people with their amenities and services looking to tempt business traffic away from the large chain groups whilst at the same time tempting lower budget travelers with discounts and deals. Very often now you’ll find the restaurant or bar in a four star hotel will now be as popular as the hotel itself. The hotel will have 24 hour reception, in-house security (mostly), separate restaurant and bar areas, high quality gym or “wellness” facilities, larger rooms or at least better decorative features than the three star range. Four star also caters to corporate travelers in the form of company accounts and frequent flyer programmes. Again the most sought after four star hotels in Barcelona are to be found in the Barri Gotic area of the city but, really it’s walking distance for the whole of the Old Town area so long as you can walk a mile or so (2km).
